What is immunity?
Immunity is simply the capability to resist harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
It can recognize and tolerate whatever belongs to the host and recognize and reject what is foreign. Our human immune system operates both via innate and adaptive (acquired) ways.
Innate immunity is encoded in our genetic material and is our body’s first line of defense against pathogens (harmful microorganisms). Adaptive or acquired immunity occurs after recovering from a past infection or through vaccination.
Can we help our bodies in the fight against pathogens? I will tell you how to strengthen your immunity in my next post.
