Covid-19 in Singapore
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was first observed in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. Within three months, the fast diffusion of the disease led the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a status of international health emergency, considering the effects the virus could have all over the world and in particular in underdeveloped countries with lower-quality health infrastructure.
Two years have passed and the World is still coping with this disease. The aggressive vaccination exercise has attenuated the fast diffusion of COVID-19, but it has not completely eradicated its community spreading.
We have to admit that our ways of life have been seriously affected by the COVID-19. Social distancing and face masks have become social norms in our society. COVID-19 situation in Singapore has entered into the endemic from the pandemic stage. The Singapore government with its COVID-19 task force is advising Singaporeans to start thinking how best to live with COVID-19, just like how we live with the common flu virus.
Scientifically thinking, this strategy is inevitable, as there is close to no way for our current science and technology to eradicate the COVID-19 virus completely without causing harm to ourselves.
In my next blog, I will write how to live with this virus from the nutrition point of view. Stay tuned!
